Monitoring the amount of pests and critters in your home or business is critical to keeping it clean. Critters and rodents can become a nuisance to anyone and their proper maintenance is of paramount importance. We have all seen a few ants or a cockroach in the kitchen and dealt with the trash fallen over and ravaged by some nocturnal being. In this post we will explore the ways by which you can prevent them from wreaking havoc on your life. The three primary methods of pest control are physical, chemical, and biological.
Physical
Physical pest control is the tapping, killing, and removal of a critter from their environment. It also includes putting up physical barriers or “pest proofing” to prevent them from entering an area. The biggest advantage is that this kind does not involve any kind of dangerous chemicals. These can have deleterious effects on the environment or any individual in the surrounding area. A key disadvantage is that it can be inhumane to the animals trapped.
Chemical
Chemical pest control are essentially pesticides. They are used to control weeds and prevent disease in crops. The main advantage of chemical pest control is that it is effective and gives fast results. In contrast, most chemical pesticides are highly toxic and can cause serious issues if ingested by a person.
Biological
Lastly, biological pest control consists of using other natural organisms to reduce or remove pests. This typically involves introducing a natural predator into the area. Biological pest control is generally the most environmentally-friendly method you can use, as it doesn’t involve any kind of synthetic substance. It is the best long term option because it just happens once. Biological pest control is not a particularly reliable method because you cannot dictate how a predatory species is going to act when introduced into a new area.
How to use pesticides, traps, and deterrents
Pesticides are used to control various pests and disease carriers like mosquitos, rats, ticks, and mice. They can also control weeds. Pesticides are beneficial because they allow farmers to safely produce quality food at lower prices. The food also grows in larger quantities and undisturbed. As far as using them, only buy the amount that you need, always wear a long sleeve shirt, pants, and eye protection, and lastly, dispose of chemicals in the manner prescribed on the label.
As far as traps and other deterrents go, there are many different kinds depending on the size of the creature you intend to catch. Some traps require user assembly so be careful when constructing a trap, especially if it has sharp edges.
